You’d be hard pressed to find someone who has never had ramen noodles. They’re cheap and easy and did I mention that they’re CHEAP! I can’t say that they’re all that delicious…I’d say it depends on how hungry you are!

However, did you know you don’t have to settle for just what came in the package? Yes, you can have more than the freeze dried veggies and flavor dust! [Read more…]

Japchae (잡채), or jap chae, is a delicious Korean noodle stir fry dish! It’s ubiquitous at any major Korean event (birthdays, holidays, funerals, etc.). Plus it’s a great way to sneak some veggies in!

If you’ve read my other recipes, then you know that I’m not a fan of complicated recipes that require you to buy a ton of new ingredients. Japchae doesn’t require that, which is another reason why I love it! [Read more…]

They’re incredibly easy to make and quick to boot!

These Korean sesame seed cookies are called “tasik” or “dasik” (다식). And they’re traditionally served during Seollal (Korean New Year’s). Back in the dynastic period, only nobility ate these cookies. Despite being easy to make, they look elegant and are essentially a tea cookie. So be sure to eat them with your pinky raised! 😉 [Read more…]

Seollal (Korean New Year) is Next Week! It’s Time for Tteokguk!

Seollal (Korean New Year) is Next Week! Time for Tteokguk! (It's a yummy rice cake soup!)Seollal 설날 (Korean New Year) is Next Week!

That means it’s time for tteokguk 떡국! Tteokguk is the yummy traditional rice cake soup that’s eaten on New Year’s Day. The round shape of the rice cakes symbolizes money, because the roundness are like coins. And the white color of the rice cakes symbolizes purity, as in starting fresh for the new year.

It’s also a tradition to eat it to symbolize turning a year older since everyone simultaneously ages a year on New Year’s Day, according to how Koreans calculate age. (I know that’s kind-of confusing, so I cleared it up here.) So often, you’ll hear people asking if you’ve eaten tteokguk, because you’re not officially a year older until you have. But if you ask me, that’s a reason for me to never eat tteokguk ever again! Forever young! …But tteokguk is so tasty…. Meh, what’s in a number?! Enjoy the soup! 😉 [Read more…]

Have you heard of the “other” KFC? It’s Korean Fried Chicken! And it’s just in time for the Super Bowl this weekend!

My husband loves chicken wings while he watches football…or anytime, really. And who doesn’t love fried chicken? (No offense vegans and vegetarians!)

But I wanted something healthier and easier to make. Yeah, it’s a little healthier but what I really didn’t want is a bunch of grease splattering with a toddler running around. Not to mention it’s a pain to clean up!

So I took this chicken to the oven and I love how it turned out. And my hubby loves it every time I make it too! He just wishes I would make more!

I’m sure whoever you make it for is going to love them too! You’re sure to score a touchdown with these wings! (Sorry, I had to!) [Read more…]
