Why Do South Koreans Say _Fighting__Why Do Koreans Say “Fighting”?

It’s common to hear “fighting” or rather “hwaiting” (because there’s no “f” sound in the Korean language) in Korean television shows and movies. And it’s usually said whilst pumping a fist, or both fists, in the air.

So what’s it mean?

How to Make Ddakji – an easy, cheap, and FUN Korean game

How to Make Ddakji - an easy, cheap, and FUN Korean gameKorean Ddakji – an easy, cheap, and FUN game

My toddler is in a throwing things phase. It’s incredibly annoying!

Even though I’m happy he has a good throwing arm, it can be destructive at worst and disruptive at best. (I think our senior dog is going to have a heart attack!)

So I said to myself, ‘Self, what activity can we do that allows him to throw things and improve his aim but isn’t so destructive?’

Every Christmas I watch certain movies because it puts me in the season’s spirit. I usually watch the first “Harry Potter” and “A Christmas Carol,” just to name a couple. But I wanted to add some Korean movies to the mix this year.

So this year, I watched “The Tower.” Yes it came out back in 2012 but I’m only just finding it now. It stars Sol Kyung Gu, Kim Sang Kyung, and Son Yejin.

There may be spoilers in this post. So if you really want to be left in the dark, just know it’s a good movie and don’t read on. [Read more…]

Movie Day in South Korea is November 14thNovember 14th is Movie Day in South Korea

By now you know that every 14th of the month is some sort-of unofficial “holiday” in South Korea. It’s usually a couples thing but some times it’s not (e.g., April 14th Black Day).

Well today is Movie Day which means couples in South Korea go out in droves to catch a flick. [Read more…]
